The ongoing version of the Edge has been revealed for the 2015 model year with a daring style and a great selection of engines. The car didn’t change much in the meantime but it still offers one of the more complete packages in its class. The newly revealed 2018 Ford Edge brings only minimal changes into the mix such as a new appearance package for the mid-range models and that’s about it. Like before, the car remains a 5-seats only model which is unusual, especially when we consider its size. Even so it manages to offer a great experience and the 2 missing seats aren’t as important when the trunk is larger than that of any other car in its class.
In detail
The base version starts at just under $30,000 and offers a good selection of features. However, most people will want the SEL which starts at just over $32,500.

The 2018 version doesn’t bring any real price changes but it does bring a Sports Appearance Package for the SEL which is available at just $1,295 over the price of the base SEL. Both the Titanium and Sport remain mostly unchanged from the 2017 model and that’s to be expected.
2018 Ford Edge design
Likely one of the main selling points of the 2018 Ford Edge is the way it looks. The car offers a bulky appearance which is a lot more similar to that of a hot-hatch than an SUV. The front end is upright and aggressive with Ford’s trademark two-slats grille. The swept back headlights, large lower air intake, wide wheel arches and rear roof spoiler make the Edge stand out from a crowd.

The big change for the 2018 version is the new appearance package. This basically makes the SEL mid-range model look like the top end Sport version. It brings the same blacked out side window inserts and headlights bezels. It also brings a unique magnetic metallic finish on the grille, side-skirts as well as roof-spoiler and mirror caps. The package adds new 19 inch 10-spoke alloy rims which do complete the look.
Inside the cabin
Here not much changed for the Edge. While most of the car remains unchanged from the 2017 version, the SEL with the new package adds a new upholstery. This combines the usual cloth with a suede-like material and contrasting stitching for a complete look.

The only real missing feature is a new set of seats which would have made the experience so much better. The improved steering system from the 2017 version as well as Ford’s latest Sync3 infotainment unit are available across the entire range.
Under the hood
The base version of the 2018 Ford Edge comes with a 2.0 liter EcoBoost inline 4. This engine has been around for a while but its 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque output has always impressed. Those looking for more will have to go for the 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6. This offers 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque which is a good upgrade over the inline-4 engine. Unfortunately the V6 will likely be replaced with a smaller 3.3 liter unit next year.
The top of the range Sport gets the same 2.7 liter twin-turbo V6 as before. With 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque this engine makes the Edge one of the fastest cars in its class. A 6 speed automatic comes as standard across the range which offers good performance for this class and price point. In Europe the Edge will carry on with the same 2 diesel engines as before. Unfortunately the European market won’t receive the naturally aspirated V6 or the 2.7 liter EcoBoost despite the fact there have been a few requests for them.
