2019 Ford Ranger Introduction

Even though the Ranger has been discontinued from the US market back in 2011, the truck has been on sale in the rest of the world. While many expected a replacement, Ford decided to just offer a smaller engine for their F150. While this worked relatively well, it wasn’t really a match for all the other medium trucks on the market. Because of that Ford finally decided to start offering the Ranger on the US market once again. The new truck is set to be released with the upcoming 2019 Ford Ranger and it seems it will receive quite a few improvements over what is currently available elsewhere.

In detail

For starters, it seems the chassis of the US truck will be very similar to the European model. The two are also likely going to share most of the running gear and possibly some of its engines. This is where most similarities will end though. The US model is expected to receive a different design, more engine options as well as more trim levels.

The price is also going to be adjusted accordingly. Most suggest the truck will start quite close to $20,000 with the top end models going to north of $40,000. In fact the Ranger is expected to be priced nearly identically to the Colorado.

The design of Ford Ranger 2019

So far we were able to see quite a few test mules for the 2019 Ford Ranger and all of them seemed promising. The regular versions of the truck seem quite close in design to the current European model. In the front it looks like Ford may turn to their larger F150 for inspiration but pretty much everything else, down to the cabin’s design, seems identical to the current Ranger.

The big change will come with the rumored Raptor Ranger. Even though this hasn’t been confirmed just yet, it has been seen testing on the open road. This will likely receive a Raptor-like front end with an aggressive off-road bumper, beefier fenders and larger wheels. This particular version also seems to boast a considerably more capable running gear which will likely allow it to be as good as the Raptor in off-road.

Inside the cabin

The base version of the 2019 Ford Ranger is actually expected to be quite basic. The truck will likely get AC and possibly Ford’s older Sync infotainment system and that should be it. There will be quite a few safety features though but these will be installed due to the latest regulations.

The higher end trim levels are set to receive Ford’s Sync3 infotainment unit, an automatic climate control system, adaptive cruise control and even electric, heated and ventilated seats. The rumored Raptor Ranger is likely going to boast sports seats and possibly a unique upholstery as well.

2019 Ford Ranger  Specs and Engine

The 2019 Ford Ranger is expected to feature at least three different engines. The base model is likely going to use a 2.0 liter turbocharged EcoBoost good for around 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. In case you need to introduce a new turbocharger after some time, or if the original gets damaged, you can find a replaced turbocharger at partsgeek.com. Further up the range there should be a diesel. Unfortunately the details about this are still unknown. Ford could go with their 185 horsepower 3.2 liter inline-five, from the Transit, or with the newly announced 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 which is said to make north of 240 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Considering the price of the Ranger we would bet on the first choice. The Raptor version of the truck on the other hand will more than likely use Ford’s well known 2.7 liter twin-turbo V6. This should be able to push out more than 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. While not that impressive, it should be enough to trump its direct competitor, the ZR2 Colorado.
