2018 Ford Mustang Convertible – The Largest Change It Looks

Ford showcased the new Mustang a couple of months back and with it, the convertible version of the car. The 2018 Ford Mustang convertible is expected to be released on the market roughly at the same time with its coupe counterpart. This time around the price of the car is expected to increase slightly from $31,500 to around $33,000. This would account for the loss of an engine option and it would allow Ford to cram in all the safety features they announced. The new model also sports a new look while the interior has been revised slightly in order to offer a better experience.

In detail

Unfortunately Ford didn’t change much about the car’s internals. It still rocks the same platform as before while the suspension system is identical. This means it won’t drive better than before and it won’t be as fun as the coupe. Even so, the convertible should be more than capable to hold its own against its main rivals.

With this 2018 version the convertible is expected to receive at least one new trim level in the shape of the Mach 1. Some also suggested the high performance GT500 will be available as a convertible but this hasn’t been confirmed by Ford just yet.

Possibly the largest change on the 2018 Ford Mustang convertible is the way it looks. While the car may seem identical to its predecessor at a first glance, it really isn’t. The entire front end is lower than before while all the details are new.

The car has a new grille, slimmer headlights that have a more aggressive angle than before as well as new fog-lamps triangular housings. The bumper received a slimmer and more aggressive intake than before while the lower hood makes it seem ready to pounce.

The back also sports new tail lights which boast a slight curve while the bumper has been completely replaced and together with it, the exhaust. The V8 version of the car will feature heat extractors on the hood as well as brand new wheels while the base version might get more options than before when it comes to looks.

Inside the cabin

The design didn’t change all that much in here. However, the new Mustang did receive quite a few features over its predecessor. A brand new all digital instrument cluster has been made available with the Mustang.

It seems that this system will be customizable in order to allow the driver to select the best possible preset for him. On top of that Ford also said the car will be safer thanks to the extra safety systems now available as standard across the range.

Under the hood

The old naturally aspirated V6 is now gone which has been expected for a while now. In its place the 2.3 liter EcoBoost will be offered. Not only that but it seems Ford upgraded the four-cylinder engine to offer more power and torque. The output is still unknown but we can likely expect a 5 to 10 horsepower difference from its predecessor which should be more than enough to make it a steal at the new price point. The V8 hasn’t been left unchanged either. This is also expected to receive a small boost to its output thanks to the new direct and port injection system. So far it seems that 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque is possible. Both engines will be available with either a 6 speed manual or with their new 10 speed automatic. When equipped with the manual the V8 will receive a twin-disc clutch together with a dual-mass flywheel. This should allow the V8 to feel smoother than before while also maintaining the sharp gear changes it has always been known for.
