Ford’s Chassis Cab series of trucks has been quite popular as it gave contractors all the versatility they needed. Well, it seems an upgrade might be on its way with the future 2018 Ford Chassis Cab. Even though the details are still scarce for now, it looks like Ford is looking to upgrade their Chassis Cab trucks alongside the regular Super Duty models. For now it seems the changes might be more than just cosmetic. For now the details have yet to be confirmed but it seems the trucks are going to receive a revised set of engines and possibly more interior options. The pricing scheme might also be revised in order to be able to better compete with their rivals.
In detail
The aluminum cab as well as the high strength steel frame are the two things that are not going to change for the new Chassis Cab. This means that the truck will continue to offer the durability and lightness it managed to offer since its redesign. However, the design is expected to change slightly while the running gear might too.
Most rumors suggest the trucks are going to make use of heavier duty axles as well as better brakes. These would give them a higher payload rating and it would allow Ford to install better engines as well. The price for the base model will likely continue to hover around $33,000. However, the mid to range-topping models are expected to get slightly cheaper.
The design of 2018 Ford Chassis Cab
As we said, the upcoming 2018 Ford Chassis Cab might look slightly different. While the current model is definitely on par with Ford’s latest trucks, the new one is expected to go even further. Most rumors suggest the truck will receive a new set of headlights which should give the driver better visibility while looking better than ever before.
The rear of the cab might change as well in order to include a steel bash-plate which would protect the fragile aluminum from the tools installed on the rear of the truck. Some also suggested Ford may release a more premium model offering similar exterior features to those found on the Platinum-edition F-350. While this would definitely be great, we highly doubt anything like this will happen anytime soon.
Inside the cabin
The current Chassis Cab is available in a few different configurations offering from 2 and up to 6 seats. It looks like the 2018 model is not going to change much here. However, the materials are expected to get slightly better while the column-mounted shift-lever might be replaced by a rotary knob.
This hasn’t been confirmed just yet but it might just happen. On top of that, it seems that Ford’s digital instrument cluster could make a full appearance in the new Chassis Cab.
2018 Ford Chassis Cab Specs
The base 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 is likely going to stay. With up to 385 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque this can easily offer all the power one would need. However, it is not nearly the most efficient engine on the market. The 2018 Ford Chassis Cab will also receive Ford’s well known 6.7 liter turbocharged V8 diesel. This is currently known to make 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque which is definitely impressive.
However, it looks like the 2018 version of the truck will receive an upgraded diesel alongside a possible 10-speed automatic transmission. The new engine is expected to make roughly the same amount of power but as much as 1,000 lb-ft of torque. With the help of the new transmission it should be able to not only trump its competition but also give the buyer enough power for any task. A third engine option is also possible but so far not much has been revealed about it.
