After a good run the ongoing generation of the Fiesta is going to be discontinued and replaced by the 2018 Ford Fiesta. The new model is larger, more structurally rigid as well as more powerful. On top of that it boasts new features and a more capable running gear than before. The end result should be a better overall experience at roughly the same price as before. While Ford hasn’t revealed the price of the new model, it is safe to assume it won’t be much more expensive than its predecessor.
In detail
The car is still based on Ford’s new B-platform which has been around for a while at this point. This means it features a twist-beam setup in the rear coupled with an independent suspension in the front. While the suspension is similar, the car likely boasts new springs and shocks in order to offer better body control than before.

The car is also larger than its predecessor. The 2018 version is significantly wider and lower while also having a longer wheelbase. Thanks to the new size it will offer more room inside the cabin without having to compromise on anything.

Likely one of the largest upgrades over the older model is the cabin of the 2018 Ford Fiesta. The design changed and Ford is also offering more gear than ever before. The car sports a more minimalist design which should appeal to a broader market. The center stack is quite a bit cleaner with standard 7 inch touch-screen. The HVAC controls are mounted low but easy to reach without moving your hand too much.

The rest of the cabin is quite easy on the eyes with the only real downgrade being the multicolored instrument cluster that doesn’t really fit the rest of the cabin. The materials have been improved by quite a bit and with this model Ford is also going to offer a new trim level. The Vignale will boast quilted leather, aluminum or wood inserts as well as real leather stitched dashboard.
The design
While it still has some design cues from its predecessor, it is quite clear this is an all new version. In the front it boasts a lower grille, swept back headlights and new bumper designs across the entire range.

The ST-line gets a sporty-looking body kit, the Active gets crossover-like addons while the Vignale offers an understated look that is quite clearly upmarket. The rear is quite a bit more different than its predecessor with a lower roof-line, a wider tailgate as well as new horizontal tail lights that really complete the look of the car.

Under the hood
So far it has been confirmed that the 2018 Ford Fiesta will receive 5 engines offering different outputs depending on the market. In Europe the car will get a 1.1 liter naturally aspirated unit with 84 horsepower as the base powertrain. This will drive the front wheels via a 5 speed manual only. An optional 1.0 liter EcoBoost offering 100, 125 or 140 horsepower will be available as well. As standard it will come mated to a 6 speed manual while the base 100 horsepower version will also get a 6 speed automatic as an option. A 1.5 liter inline-4 diesel offering either 84 or 120 horsepower is also going to be available. This will only come alongside a 6 speed manual with longer gear ratios than the gas-powered counterparts. Ford also confirmed the Fiesta ST’s engine, a new 1.5 liter EcoBoost. This is a 3 cylinder powertrain offering up to 197 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque without overboost. It seems that with overboost the engine will get closer to 220 horsepower which is quite an impressive feat for its displacement.
