2019 Ford Focus Wagon

The new Focus is nearing production and even though Ford has yet to announced much about it, the car has been spied in the wild a few times now. In fact photographers managed to take a really good look at the upcoming model not that long ago. This was wearing no camouflage at all with the only exception being a thin sheet of vinyl that covered some of its lines. Unfortunately we can’t say the same about the upcoming 2019 Ford Focus Wagon. We have yet to take a better look at this version of the car which is likely because it is further away from release than the other two body styles. Ford is likely going to release the hatchback and the sedan first while the wagon should follow at a later date.

In detail

Just like with the other two cars, the wagon version of the Focus is more than likely going to use Ford’s highly modular CD4 architecture. This should be narrower and it should feature a shorter wheelbase than that of the Fusion. Even so, the car will definitely boast more than enough interior space, especially since it will be larger than its predecessor.

The new wagon should also feature a different suspension architecture. This time around the car should feature a fully independent setup which would allow it to create a more comfortable ride without compromising the way it drives. The new platform also means less weight and a lower center of gravity. Both of these should help Ford in their goal to offer the best driving hatchback on the market.

2019 Ford Focus Wagon Release and price

While the hatchback will start at roughly $18,000, the wagon is likely going to hover around $20,000 for a base version. The range-topping model should now cost around $30,000 but more on that a bit later. Even though the car looked ready, we can safely assume the new 2019 Ford Focus Wagon is at least half a year away from release. We do hope Ford will reveal the car in the early 2018 but this has yet to be confirmed.

The design

The new Focus will definitely come with a far more dramatic look than its predecessor. The wagon will feature the same front end as the hatch, so expect the lower-mounted grille, the swept-back headlights and the clam-shell hood design. All of these will give the car a Mazda vibe but we do hope Ford will customize theirs in order to stand out a bit more.

Like with the sedan, the wagon is going to feature really aggressive creases in the body in order to give it an aggressive vibe. The rear of the car on the other hand will not be as impressive as the rest of it. Here the car will feature relatively wide tail lights, a wagon-specific tailgate as well as a bigger than usual rear window.

The interior of  Ford Focus Wagon

There won’t be any real different in here between the three versions of the car. Chances are the wagon will come with a bit more kit in the base trim level.

Things like a 7.0 inch infotainment system, a multi-functional steering wheel, climate and cruise control as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel should be standard. The big difference will come in the available space. Thanks to its different roof-line, the 2019 Ford Focus Wagon will feature noticeably more headroom in the rear which may become a selling point.

Under the hood

Most rumors seem to suggest the future Focus wagon will feature a base 1.0 liter turbo-three. This Ecoboost unit has been previously seen in Ford’s other products. While the specifics are unknown, we can expect this one to provide anything between 125 and 140 horsepower and up to 160 lb-ft of torque. Further up the range we should see Ford’s new 1.5 liter turbo-three which debuted on the Fiesta ST. This is known to make around 200 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque, so it should be a great addition to the range. The European version will also make use of a couple of diesel engines but there isn’t all that much information available about these. The one most people are looking for is the ST which should feature a new generation 2.0 liter engine offering north of 260 horsepower.
